The scene from Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver' when Travis (De Niro) is talking on the phone to a woman, was inspiration for the film. The shot starts as focusing on Travis talking on the phone, but as the conversation becomes more uncomfortable the camera moves to the empty corridor and we can only hear the conversation; almost as if it is a friend moving away from a private conversation they don't want to hear. This inspired the scene in our short film, where the camera moves down the empty corridor in the house and all the audience can hear is the woman being sick rather than seeing anything. (Chapter 8 on dvd.)
The 'hearing without seeing' is continued in the scene where the woman is talking to a stranger on a public bench. The majority that is seen is the back's of the two people's heads rather than seeing them face on throughout the shot.
